Description

These Brownie Waffles offer a delightful fusion of two classic desserts. Each waffle features a rich, deep chocolate flavor with a tender, fudgy interior reminiscent of a brownie, encased in a lightly crisp exterior from the waffle iron. Served warm, they are generously drizzled with a smooth chocolate sauce and finished with a scattering of chocolate chips, creating a decadent and satisfying treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips, plus more for topping
  • Chocolate sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are acceptable. Fold in ¾ cup of chocolate chips.
  4. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease the waffle iron plates if necessary.
  5. Pour or scoop about ½ to ¾ cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron, depending on its size. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffle is cooked through and lightly crisp.
  6. Carefully remove the cooked waffle and place it on a plate. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  7. Serve the warm brownie waffles immediately, drizzled generously with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with extra chocolate chips.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter to ensure tender waffles. Overmixing can lead to a tough texture.

For extra richness, you can add 2 tablespoons of melted dark chocolate to the wet ingredients.

Keep cooked waffles warm in a single layer on a baking sheet in a low oven (around 200°F / 95°C) while you finish cooking the rest.

Leftover waffles can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in a toaster or waffle iron.

Consider serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or fresh berries for a delightful contrast.
