Description
This elegant dessert features fresh, ripe strawberries enrobed in a smooth, rich layer of melted chocolate. The natural sweetness and slight tartness of the fruit beautifully complement the deep, luxurious flavor of the chocolate. Each strawberry offers a delightful contrast in texture, from the juicy interior to the firm, crisp chocolate shell, often finished with a delicate drizzle or a subtle shimmer for an added touch of sophistication. This simple yet impressive treat is prepared by dipping and chilling.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, washed and thoroughly dried
- 8 ounces good quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother melting)
- Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional, for decoration)
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Ensure strawberries are completely dry. Moisture will cause the chocolate to seize.
- Melt the chocolate: Place chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, use a double boiler: place chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, stirring until melted. If using, stir in coconut oil or shortening for a smoother consistency.
- Dip the strawberries: Holding each strawberry by its stem, dip it into the melted chocolate, rotating to coat about two-thirds of the berry. Allow excess chocolate to drip off.
- Place dipped strawberries onto the prepared baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle with edible glitter or sprinkles immediately after dipping, before the chocolate sets.
- Chill the strawberries: Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator and chill for at least 15-30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and melting consistency.
Ensure strawberries are completely dry to prevent the chocolate from seizing.
For a decorative drizzle, place a small amount of melted chocolate in a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with a tiny corner snipped off.
Store chocolate-covered strawberries in a single layer in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Bring strawberries to room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving for optimal flavor and texture.
