Description

This elegant dessert features fresh, ripe strawberries enrobed in a smooth, rich layer of melted chocolate. The natural sweetness and slight tartness of the fruit beautifully complement the deep, luxurious flavor of the chocolate. Each strawberry offers a delightful contrast in texture, from the juicy interior to the firm, crisp chocolate shell, often finished with a delicate drizzle or a subtle shimmer for an added touch of sophistication. This simple yet impressive treat is prepared by dipping and chilling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, washed and thoroughly dried
  • 8 ounces good quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother melting)
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Ensure strawberries are completely dry. Moisture will cause the chocolate to seize.
  3. Melt the chocolate: Place chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, use a double boiler: place chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, stirring until melted. If using, stir in coconut oil or shortening for a smoother consistency.
  4. Dip the strawberries: Holding each strawberry by its stem, dip it into the melted chocolate, rotating to coat about two-thirds of the berry. Allow excess chocolate to drip off.
  5. Place dipped strawberries onto the prepared baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle with edible glitter or sprinkles immediately after dipping, before the chocolate sets.
  6. Chill the strawberries: Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator and chill for at least 15-30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set.
  7. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and melting consistency.

Ensure strawberries are completely dry to prevent the chocolate from seizing.

For a decorative drizzle, place a small amount of melted chocolate in a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with a tiny corner snipped off.

Store chocolate-covered strawberries in a single layer in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Bring strawberries to room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving for optimal flavor and texture.
