Instructions
- In a large, microwave-safe mixing bowl, combine the 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter, and 1/4 cup of unsalted butter.
- Microwave the mixture on high power for 30 seconds, then remove and stir thoroughly with a sturdy rubber spatula.
- Continue microwaving in shorter 15-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the mixture is completely smooth and fully melted.
- Once smooth, stir in the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until it is fully incorporated into the chocolate and peanut butter mixture.
- Pour the 9 cups of rice square cereal into an extra-large mixing bowl.
- Carefully drizzle the warm, melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture evenly over the cereal.
- Using your rubber spatula, gently fold the cereal and coating together until all the cereal pieces are thoroughly coated with the chocolate mixture.
- Prepare for the "snowfall" effect by pouring the 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar into a large, sealable plastic bag.
- Carefully add the chocolate-coated cereal into the bag with the powdered sugar.
- Seal the bag securely, ensuring there's plenty of air trapped inside.
- Gently shake and tumble the bag for 1 to 2 minutes, allowing the powdered sugar to evenly coat every single piece of the crispy puppy chow until it has that characteristic snowy appearance.
- Spread the puppy chow out in a single layer on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.
- Allow the puppy chow to cool completely at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
- Once the crispy puppy chow has cooled and set, transfer it from the baking sheet into an attractive serving bowl.
- Garnish it with a light dusting of additional powdered sugar just before serving.
