Description
This savory oatmeal offers a comforting and satisfying start to the day. Creamy oats are infused with a delicate cheesy flavor, topped with slices of ripe avocado, a perfectly fried egg with a rich, runny yolk, and a sprinkle of fresh herbs and black pepper. The dish combines warm, hearty textures with fresh, vibrant notes, creating a balanced and flavorful meal.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup water or unsweetened milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 ripe avocado, sliced
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon olive oil or butter
- Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Combine rolled oats, water (or milk), and a pinch of salt in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes, or until oats are cooked and liquid is absorbed.
- While the oats are cooking, heat olive oil or butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Crack the egg into the skillet and fry until the whites are set and the yolk is still runny, about 2-3 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Remove the cooked oatmeal from the heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted and well combined.
- Transfer the cheesy oatmeal to a serving bowl. Arrange the sliced avocado and fried egg on top.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro and a generous grind of black pepper. Serve immediately.
Notes
For creamier oatmeal, use milk instead of water.
Adjust the amount of cheese to your preference for a richer flavor.
Ensure your avocado is ripe but firm enough to slice neatly.
Experiment with other savory toppings like hot sauce or chili flakes for an extra kick.
